Information letter Boompjes Residential #9

Dear Residents and Business Owners,

Our last update was in November 2021. In this ninth newsletter, we inform you about the progress of construction activities and plans for the coming period.  

Preparation work for laying the foundations has been completed and the construction pit excavated to its lowest point, uncovering the foundation piles. The top section of the piles was subsequently removed, baring the steel reinforcement, which was then connected to the steel foundation frame by steel fixers. The reinforcement was transported by ship, which to date has made four supply runs to and from the construction site.

Fun fact: no less than 1.6 million kilograms of reinforcement has been applied in the basement! The second 100-metre-high tower crane was recently erected.

Activities in the coming period

With the construction pit having reached its lowest point, upcoming work will focus on building the structure back up to ground level. We will start by pouring the foundation slabs. Each residential tower will be erected on a 2.3-metre-thick slab (footing). The first foundation slab will be poured in week 21.

Pouring the roughly 2,600 cubic metres of concrete will occur almost entirely during regular working hours. Given the large quantity, however, some of the pouring and finishing or trowelling of the concrete will occur outside these periods. The concrete can only be finished once the entire foundation slab has been poured. During this phase, the work must therefore continue until the concrete is finished, sometimes late in to the evening. The trowelling may cause some noise nuisance. We will, of course, do our best to minimise any inconvenience.

We aim to have built the structure up to ground level by September. From then on, you can expect the residential towers along the Boompjes to slowly start emerging on the Rotterdam skyline.
